I was reading the Bible to my daughter the other day and we came across a passage that listed several different types of birds and other creatures that the Israelites weren’t allowed to eat. I knew what many of these animals were, but I came across one that was new to me. A hoopoe. What in the world is a hoopoe?
I decided to look it up and find out. This beautiful bird pictured above is what I found. Isn’t God amazing? He is so creative. We are constantly discovering what is new to us but has been around since God created the world. For me the other day, it was the hoopoe. What a name.
When I look at this unique and beautiful bird I am reminded of our amazing creator. He made so many colors and designs. It’s incredible.
I am just fascinated by the beauty of his creation. I am in awe of our Creator. What love He has, to have made so many wonderful creatures for us to see and learn about. He has painted us a beautiful world to live in. What a marvelous God we serve.
We decided to look up each of the birds listed in Leviticus 11. Some I had seen and some I had not, but they were all so unique. Have you ever looked closely at the beautiful design of the feathers on a falcon? It’s just amazing.
This little guy really stood out to me though. Who would have ever thought that something as funny sounding as a hoopoe would be such a beautiful creation. What a wonderful God we serve.
You can read a passage in the Bible many times and still discover something new. That’s why the Bible is the Living Word. I want to hang this picture in my home to remind me that there is always something new to discover, to remind me of God’s beautiful creations, and to remind me of his amazing love for us to have created such beauty that we may see in it the beauty of our Creator.
And just think about all the other creatures like this bird that we don’t even know about that are so beautiful and unique and what they might look like. The ocean is full of amazing creatures—many of which we haven’t even discovered yet. And here’s another thought: If God cares enough about the hoopoe to make it so pretty, then he surely cares about and will take care of you whom he loved enough to die for.
